2 Bangladeshis shot dead by BSF along Lalmonirhat border, locals claim

Two Bangladeshis were shot dead allegedly by members of India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Lalmonirhat's Kaliganj upazila early on Wednesday. 

The deceased are Was Kuruni, 32, and Aynal Haque, 30.

The incident took place around 2:30am in the Lohakuchi border area of Gorol union. 

Mohammad Ali, chairman of the local Bhelebari union parishad, said members of the BSF from Koimari Botfor camp of BSF-75 battalion in Gopalpur sector opened fire when several Bangladeshi cattle traders went to the border area to move cattle with the help of Indian traders. 

The two Bangladeshi cattle traders were shot and died on the spot.

Fellow cattle traders brought their bodies back to their home. 

Moktarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Aditmari police station, said the police visited the homes of the two deceased cattle traders. 

Legal steps will be taken after investigation, he added. 

Commanding officer SM Touhidul Alam of BGB-15 battalion of Lalmonirhat said they have heard about the incident and are collecting necessary information.
