Asked to bat first in Brisbane, India racked up 186/7 in their 20 overs with opener KL Rahul (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) posting half centuries.

Australia’s Kane Richardson starred with the ball, bagging four wickets.

In reply, Australia were all out for 180 in 20 overs as captain Aaron Finch top-scored with 76.

India’s Mohammad Shami, who came in as the replacement of the injured Jasprit Bumrah, bagged three wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two.

Only three New Zealand batters – Martin Guptill (26), Glenn Phillips (20) and Michael Bracewell (11) – reached double digit.

South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj picked up three wickets while Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi bagged two each.
